Description
An exploration into the Hebrew meanings of 36 Old Testament place names.

Did you know that.... In the Old Testament, the Sea of Galilee was called the Chinnereth, which means harps? When Elijah went to stay with the widow in Zarephath, he was literally going to the refinery? Zion comes from a Hebrew word meaning waymark?

Signposts & Waymarks is somewhere in between a dictionary and a devotional. It aims to help non-Hebrew speaking Christians understand some of the depths contained within Hebrew place names in the Old Testament, and to appreciate the nuances and shades of meaning that the original readers would have grasped.

Author: Helen Mitchell moved to Israel in 2009 with her husband Colin. They now live on Mount Carmel and serve at Kehilat HaCarmel (the Carmel Assembly). Since coming to the land, Helen has fallen in love with the beauty of the Hebrew language, and the fresh insights that an understanding of Hebrew brings to the pages of Scripture.
